    i have been getting a windows centric email newsletter for many years. i emailed a comment about one of their articles, and mentioned netware and my company's continued use of it. the guy in charge, thought that was interesting, and wanted to interview me. he emailed me a bunch of questions. i answered them and sent them back. both parts of the interview have now gone live. half way down part 2 is where i talk about majorgeeks as the place to go for software and "useful" support.

    i have never considered myself an "IT pro", just a computer guy. who i do consider as "IT pros" are the admins and staff and regular contributors here at majorgeeks. you guys are the best!!

    if you're bored, you can read the interview here:

    Last Sunday my brother in law asked me about MajorGeeks. He was quite intrigued, and I explained how we help people.

    Tried to read it last night and again just now. After a minute or so an overlay shades the whole screen.,

    Same here. And I use Adblock software so I have no idea what the heck it could be.

    No problems here, either now or last night, Pale Moon on W7, uBlock Origin.

    This is what I get after about 30 seconds of trying to read. I can get rid of it by refreshing the page, but it comes right back again.

    Looks like it might be something like a newsletter subscription form that's failed, maybe ABP is only picking up part of it, you could uninstall ADP temporarily and test with uBO (adblocking isn't what it majors on, that's more of a side-effect, effective though!).

    What you are seeing is as a result of the following script:
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    $('.ad-modal').on($.modal.BEFORE_OPEN, function(event, modal) {
        modal.options['escapeClose'] = false;
        modal.options['clickClose'] = false;
    });
    setTimeout(function(){
        if (! Cookies.get('newsletter-popup')) {
            $('#subscribe-modal').modal("show");
        }
    }, 40000);
    </script>

    If you don't block any content (disable your adblocker), then you'll see popups that can be closed.
    Otherwise you can block the script that causes the modal popups, or block the 2 dom elements:
    Code:
    www.windowsnetworking.com###subscribe-modal
    www.windowsnetworking.com##.blocker.jquery-modal

    Yep. Disabled ABP and was able to read it. Interesting interview. 8" floppies- yeah I remember those. Was waiting for you to mention 16 switches.

    yup, 8 inch floppies, and the funny thing was that no one at the office believed me that pencil shavings could ruin a floppy until i produced several articles from different computer magazines that specifically talked about the do's and don'ts of labeling floppy disks. a big issue back in those days. only then did the owner say something like - oh ok guess we should use a pen now.
    lol, some things never change.

    the cool thing about that first job [ with the wang mini and 8 inch floppies ] was the dot matrix line printer they had. it was this huge beast of a printer that could print a whole line in a single instance on that legal size horizontal green and white bar paper. it was just cool to watch and printed faster than most consumer grade laser printers that you can buy today.

    thanks again!

    Neat mention and great article "harmless", legacy software and OS can be a nightmare to maintain and in the health service in UK, its painful at best.
