I have a wireless network between two computers, it worked fine and then one day stopped working. I noticed that my site survey had a lot of other networks and that other sites had a stronger potential connection than my own computer (The one with the adaptor, not the router).

I figured that it was possible that someone was leaching off my network so I set up a 64-bit WEP encyrption. NO prob.

I also decided to changed the SSID on my router. From Default to my own name, just because I felt like it.

After that I managed to actually establish a connection with my router. Woo Hoo!

   BUT:eek:

Now I cannot connect to the internet from the computer with the adaptor.

Do I have to do something to my other computer in order to access the net, or do I have to do something to the router?

I have seen other topics similiar but I felt that my problem was different. If this seems overly redundant, I apologize in advance.

    Thanks

What Brand and Model router are you using?

If you setup WEP on the router, You also have to enter the same encryption key on your computer or it won't connect.

You said you changed your SSID which is a good idea but you should also change the channel if you have others in your area on the same channel. You can find out who is on what channel by using NetStumbler. Pick a channel that no one is on. You have 1 to 11 to chose from if your in the USA.

    I am using a D-Link DI-524 model router.

So I have to put in the encryption on my computer with the adaptor? If so, where would I enter that?

I live in Canada. I noticed that everyone in my area is either on channel 6 or 11

    Thanks for your patience.

Update. I chose channel 3 because no one else was on channel 3.

On my computer with the adaptor I launched the adaptor program and clicked the configuration button. I saw my SSID and put in the 10 digit hexa decimal code and pushed apply. I also switched it to match channel 3. Still no internet. I have a feeling I am not typing in that code where it is suposed to be.

    Here's my adaptor specs:

    D-Link AirPlus G 802.11g / 2.4 GHz

    V 1.10
    Driver Version: 3.00.21

I must have typed the 10 digit code wrong, because I actually got it to work.

    Woo hoo!

    Thanks for your help!
