  1. I finally have wireless network up and running...ehhh..slowly. Now i need to get the security going.I tried to talk to the belkin guy about setting the wep thing but i couldn't understand him!!! (I'm guessin he's not in the US) The wierless is a belkin G+.So basicly how go you set the WEP UP? I have a box to put in a PassPhrase to automaticly generate a hex key but i'm afarid to use it cause with my luck i won;t be able to get in to router anymore! Any suggestions? Oh and I haven't set a Addm. password either. OH one more thing...? I know the belkin has a firewall , and so does all my computers but does the modem have a firewall? should i have all these going at the same time?

If your router support it, go with WPA2 security. If the security thing scares you a little, then go with MAC filtering. MAC filtering ristricts your wireless network to only the MAC addresses you place in the filter list.

The security you are setting up is only for the wireless....so if you are connected by wire none of the wireless security settings woll hinder your wired connection.

    Do change the admin password.

No, the modem does not have a firewal, but if it is a modem/router combination then it may.

  3. I can do the admin password...no problem. The belkin is a cable tv connection,if that helps. And yeah ,it supports wpa2. well WPA-PSK (no server)?? What does that mean? If I'm reading it right I can just think up a password and use it??

    Model of the Belkin equipment?

    WPA-PSK = WI-FI Protected Access - Pre Shared Key
Yes, you can make up a password between 8 and 63 characters in length.

  5. I tried to make a password for the WPA but after i did it wouldn't let me log onto my network again. I tried a couple more times thinking i misspeled(HA HA) MY Home Network but it still didn't work. Did i miss something??

I'm not up on Belkin either, but TxDaz, I believe you are reffering to a WEP key. A WPA is exactly as you enter it. (btw, I like this site for generating WPA keys).

As far as your problem, christopher, I'm not sure why creating WPA would knock you off your network. My first instinct is that you're typing it wrong. You can edit your settings without using a WPA key as long as you are hard wired to the network. (Forgive me if this insults your intelligence, I just don't want to talk over your head). Plugin to the router with an ethernet cable and go to you router settings page (usually located at 192.168.1.1). Enter your admin password, and change the WPA key. Then try it again. Remember, it's case sensative.

Alternatively, you way be using WPA2 (also known as 802.11i), which is not supported by all network cards. If you're using WPA2 and it wont work, there's a good chance it's your network card, in which case you cannot use WPA2. Try switching to WPA-PSK. Meanwhile, what sort of network card do you have?

  7. Well I tried a little of everything and finally got the WPA to work!! BUT...the wireless cards I use for my two other home computers wont work with it.And as for hardwired to get it setup..well i used my laptop for a few times then i though DUH! MAybe i should use the main computer. Okso i'm a leettul new at all this but since i know how to now I'll set it up late after i get the new desktop cards. Not Really worry about intruders this far out into now where but...... Thanks FOr all your help! What would i do without yuz guyz!:D Oh and the network cards are from Bellsouth when i had there DSL ...to bad i couldn't use the wireless from them. But it's all good!! Thankz again!!
