Western Digital My book ext. Hd very noisy

I had a wd ext. hd 160 Gb for a month and decided I needed more space so I got the exact same type except with a larger 250 GB space capability. Well, the 160 never made any noise even when on for a long while, this new one is making a humming noise from the moment I first started it up. It's actually pretty annoying and I am wondering if I exchange it will it matter? Anyone have any input on this WD external 250 GB hd or did I get a bad egg here.

Are you sure it's the HDD?
You can return it or exchange it depending on where & whom you bought it from.
You might run WD's free Diagnostic utility, depending on where you bought this HDD, running the utility might be required to get a RMA

 

i have a 250g wd my book and not noisy at all
just the big green ring blinking light gets my eyes at times
