I've got the dreaded Windows 7 counterfeit alert and black desktop. I downloaded and installed WGA Remover but when I launch it, I see "disabled" and the button to remove WGA is grayed out and non functional.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled a newly downloaded copy and get same results.

Any one have this or know what the problem is and how to fix WGA Remover and then the counterfeit alert?

BTW, I purchased Win 7 direct from Microsoft's volume licensening site. Been using Win 7 with no problems for a year.

    Thanks

I forgot to mention, I installed the Remover and assumed it fixed the problem on install but since my desktop was still black and the alert still in lower left of my screen assumed I needed to restart Windows and did, but there was no change.

Open WGA Remover via shortcut the install placed on my desktop when I saw the Remover said "disabled" in ref to itself and the button was grayed out.

I found the WGA Remover folder on my C drive and inside was an un-installer which removed WGA Remover entirely as hoped.

    Then I downloaded again, etc.

But since posting here, I found response to this on MS's site saying the problem is improperly an lactivated OS and to simply click the button you get on launch which takes you to MS's site to activate and it will stop.

Reading further it seems that every OS copy doesn't always have a unique activation code. Like certain computers and I'm assuming my copy which I bought with a discount using my non-profit status from a choir I'm on the Board of. You buy through a legit non-profit site (we use TechSoup) and then, for MS apps and OS's, you link to MS's volume download site where you get your legit copy. I'm guessing that's where my problem comes from and this is MS's way to differentiate the other Board members who got legit licensed copies but at the time weren't differentiated to MS's current liking. This solves that, granted at our time and inconvenience expense.

So I'll try it their way tomorrow since their admitting it's their doing and see. If not I'm calling MS and ripping them a new one.

Oh, they even mention why your screen goes black. It's to get your attention and not blow off their wanting you to reactivate. Frankly I think it's a HUGE invasion of privacy to have every launch link to MS letting them know I'm using their OS.

So if WGA Remover blocks their Eve's dropping I'm very into that. But I gotta solve the disabled issue. Another forum I read says that some of the workaround apps MS has blocked and I'm wondering if WGA Remover being a better known and visible app has been targeted and diabled by MS.

Might have to by a Mac after all this. Don't think Apple does this kinda stuff. Who knows, maybe they do too. Privacy is dead...
