Whaa happen? - Read Only Through Explorer?

I have a user who opens word documents through windows explorer. Every one seems to open in read-only mode. However, when you launch word FIRST, then load the document, its fine.

I've gone throught attributes and security settings of a test file, and all its parents, and made sure that there's no read-only permission or attributes defined, and yet STILL, they open in read-only.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can resolve this? TIA.

 

Update: This seems to be only happening for a single directory under Documents and Settings. I'm going to try recreating the directory, and I will post back on how it goes.
