What Allocation Unit Size To Use When Formatting A Usb Flash Drive.

I never really understood this very well.Even though i have read about it.

Ok i plan on making a USB windows installer.What is the best option for a flash drive NTFS.I will be using Rufus to make usb boot disk.

8129 bytes
4096 bytes (is default)
2040 bytes
1024 bytes
512 bytes

Which would be better and faster for a USB 3.0 flash drive.The flash drive size is 59.5 fyi.

 

When it comes to USB boot drives, reliability and functionality are more important to me than blinding speeds for transfer.
USB 3 is a data transfer protocol that will work just as well with most modern file systems such as NTFS, exFAT, USB-FDD, GRUB4DOS etc.

I love Win to Flash as the ultimate freeware construction software that allows great multi config co-ordination.
And its as reliable as anything i have tried.

A real advantage with it is that If you own new PC with modern UEFI instead of BIOS,
WinToFlash will create a Bootable USB with all files you need to boot with UEFI.

It has its own wizard which automatically selects the best file system for performance, based on what you desire to create.

 

I prefer to have windows installer on my flash drive because it will last a very long time with me.I use to have hard drives that lasted me 10+ years.Till they went dead.

I was asking about the Allocation Unit Size.For windows installers.

 

Allocation will be a minimum 4g drive, why would you worry about that?

If you also need the latest ISO in order to create, then Windows Media Creation Tool is pretty neat.

They can go south, buts its crap easy to make another with a USB pack deal from Walmart
