    windows 98, ie6.0 service pack 1, 466mhz intel celeron, 32mb, 128 kb, 4.3gb
40xcdrom,3dagp,56k, isp comcast highspeed, (is that enough?)

I'm new here so I hope you'll bear with me.
When I hit ctrl-alt-del, the box comes up filled with abbreviations.
I end all that are hopefully not needed. Don't know if I'm ending good along with the bad. Some have to be ended 2x because they come back up in a different spot.
I've downloaded Spyware blaster and Browser Hijack Blaster and an antivirus program called NoAdware. Also runing IE-SPYADS.

Here is a list of those abbreviations-

Explorer, Easykey, Dhbrwsr, Loadqm, Pwstray, Incd, Atitask, Sbwatchdog, Systray, Aticwd32, Qttask, Cfd, Mfhmsca, Tvm, Brvzbab, Wucrtupd, Rundll32, Msnappau, Mmtask, Tgcmd, Stcloader, Downloadplus, Hpzstatx, Hpzstc03 and Dhupt (which I apparently was somewhere along the way)

In general my computer is running fine, but I know that most of these shouldn't be there. Can you tell me which ones don't belong?

Finally, there is now a program called TimeSync 1.0.0.10 that wasn't there before. Is that a component of one of the above mentioned "blasters"?

I appreciate any help you can offer.
    thanks, karen

P.S. This is a great site. You guys rock.

Hate to break it to ya, bud, but ya got yourself some spyware! Congratulations!-Dont get up tight, everyone has it. Just get yourself a program called adaware, install and update its definitions. Then get spybot search and destroy,-install it and update it also. then you will find your computer will run faster, and you wont get as many popups as you probably have been getting. Simple solution! Glad to help!

    Hi Karen

As a recent ex user of W98 i can assure you that the only programs you need to enable at startup are systray and explorer. All others are unnecessary except perhaps an AV & Firewall programs if you are going onto the net.
That said after you have eliminated the spyware/adware rubbish open up spybot click on tools left bottom go to startups and kill everything left AFTER you have eliiminated the spyware etc. Hope this helps in addition to the good guys who have responded before me. W98 is a great OS but you really need to keep it from harms way by making sure that it is kept clean and free from unwanted addons
    Cheers
    Robert
