What are the recommended filters out there for kids?

I had Net Nanny last year and is up for renewal but I wasn't real happy with it and it was a hassle to completely remove from my system. I'm looking to obviuosly trying to keep th ekids out of th eporn but also we ar etrying to moniter/limit their time usage on MSN messanger, Myspace and Facebook. They are getting smart enough to use the diverting websites but we'd like to still have a little control.

 

Naomi is freeware and is available here at Major Geeks; NetDog is also available here at MG but is not free, but it has a high rating (4.66 out of 5). Another paid program here at MG is WebAllow. I personally don't have kids, and I haven't used any of these, but my friends with kids recommend Naomi and CyberSieve. As stated above, Naomi is free, but CyberSieve is not. As far as I know, there are very few freeware programs for internet filtering and control....

I tried to add this to my above post, but I waited too long:
Internet Explorer has built-in web site blocking (Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Restricted Sites), and I'm sure that Firefox and most other browsers have a similar feature also.

 

I just set-up OpenDNS on my home network. It works great! It isn't a piece of software that you install on your computer. You edit your Router on your home network (which hopefully your kids don't have access too) and it watches all of your traffic and you are able to pick from a list of about 50 categories of stuff you don't want them to see. It can't help out to much on the time limits on MSN, but its free!
