What are these files on my computer?

What are these two damn files? How do I get rid of them, or hide them? I'm tired of seeing them!

You need to supply more information - like their filenames and complete directories.

Ntuser.dat and Ntuser.dat.log files are used by the Windows Operating System. They are related to your registry. And they are related to a specific useraccount. See the below:

Depending on which version of Windows these files are found in folders like below:

C:Users\<username>
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

I'm a firm believer in keeping necessary OS files hidden unless I need to work with them. You seem to have set things to show hidden files; unless you really want all files to show you can just change that setting.

Hit the Organize button at the top left and then choose Folder and Search options. On the view tab tick the circle for Don't Show Hidden Files and also tick the box for "Hide protected OS files". (In your case ticking the hide protected OS files will take care of those two files. I, personally, also choose to not show any hidden files.)

It's strange because I have it already set to "Do not show hidden files and folders" yet they still appear?

In that case try right clicking one of them > Properties > check that Hidden is ticked. Tick it if not.

We have a Vista system here that behaves the same as yours except that those two files are marked Hidden.
