What are these registry changes by AusLogics Speed Booster?

First, I apologize for starting a new thread on same subject. Wanted to edit my first post but it would not let me. So, to the powers-that-be, feel free to delete the first post. (as if you needed my permission LOL)

When I ran the optimizer to speed up my internet connection (even though I have DSL, it can be very s.l.o.w), it made changes to my registry. (Okay, I knew something like that would happened. rolleyes) What I did not understand was the values it was changing. Some were reduced (10,000 to 10); while others were increased.

I'm not looking for a detailed explanation (would be over my head); however, I would like to have an idea as to what these changes are and what their end product would be. For example, what is it limiting and what is it increasing? Will I notice any differences other than hopefully, increased speed? :confused

Thank you for getting back with me. I know registry changes are tricky. I don't want to cause myself more problems.:)

As I have not used Auslogics BoostSpeed, and I found limited info at their web site, and you didn't provide any specifics, I can only provide some very generalized answers. In a situation where a value was decreased, it may be a delay value which would speed things up if it was decreased from 10,000 to 10. Windows puts delays on many different things for many different reasons; sometimes it's just for a cosmetic reason, other times the reason for a delay is very technical. Either way, decreasing a delay value will speed things up. In the case where a value was increased, this may be a capacity or volume value (volume here doesn't mean loudness). Lets say there's a setting for how many bits of data are allowed to run through an open port per second. Windows may limit this to a low default value so that all PCs regardless of hardware will get decent performance. If a particualr user has older and slower hardware (like an 800mhz Pentium3 with 256mb RAM) you'd need to keep the 'flow' fairly low because the hardware is limited as to how much data it can wrangle at a time. But if you have current hardware (like a dual core 2.4ghz with 2gb RAM) then having this fictional value set at the default would be limiting the data throughput. Therefore increasing this value would allow much more data to flow through because the hardware has no problem processing it.
These are some generalized answers, and in the second example I created a fictional setting just to illustrate a concept.
Anyhow.... I hope this helps clear things up a bit ;)

I can't help you with your specific problem, but recommend installing DrTcp on your PC. DrTcp is really useful for altering the various settings in an attempt to speed up downloads.

Individual settings vary as much as individual PC's vary. You are embarking on an almost endless quest to optimise your speed settings.

I have attached 2 thumbnails, one is from the link's DrTcp's own example (from the link to follow). The other is my setting, arrived at by much tweaking (and is only an example) to show how much the settings can vary.

Can I suggest that you install DrTcp BEFORE carrying out any more tweaking. Then do a screenprint to save your current settings. Every time you alter the DrTcp settings do a screenprint to keep track of your alterations. This is very important, to see what your setting changes achieve (in results), and allows you to rstore older settings that may have worked better. :D

Also make sure you reboot after each change to allow each change to apply.
