Depends on how many times it reboots itself before loading the OS. Anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes.

mine takes about anywhere from 8sec to 18sec to load to desktop heres what i am running

ASUS P4S8X-X
2X pc3200 256mb dual channel ram (total 512mb)
p4 celeron2.0ghz running at 2.7ghz

Anything under 30 secs, that includes loading all icons in taskbar and signing into MSN Messenger.

Mine takes 15 to 20 seconds!!! But I have my system tray down to nothing but AV, Firewall, and audio!! I am also behind a router, so I don't have to log into the dsl...it is always there!!

Around 30.29secs according to Bootvis, the raid bios and logon slows my boot down by 5-10secs
and could most liely remove a few items from the tray that arnt crucial, but its speedy enough for now.

From splash to a workable desktop---a little under 15 seconds.

None taken. It doesn't bother me. I switch it on, feed the pets, make the coffee, attend to other early morning necessities and it's always up and running before I'm ready to use it.

Desktop takes about a minute. Laptop takes almost four minutes. The laptop is cursed with XP Home.

About 40 seconds. That includes a few seconds waiting for the SATA RAID bios to load, and an app that flushes index.dat and some other useless files at every startup. And a Homer Simpson startup sound clip that I'm fond of.

Eliminating time wasters that you don't need is always a good idea, but having the computer do what you want it to is good too. Taking a few seconds for it to do useful things is just fine.

Sorta like MrPewty, I come home from work, flip on the computer, then make a glass of iced tea and other homecoming timewasters. By the time I'm ready to sit down, it's ready.

A better test would be timing how long it takes to load Half-Life 2 and load a saved game. Man, that game is slow loading. ;)

Mine says "No time for that now, the computer's starting!" in an excited voice.

At shutdown, him saying "Whew. All that computer hacking is making me thirsty."

Those sound pretty good

From pressing the power button its about 35-40sec since it takes a good 10 seconds for the SATA RAID to kick in.

From the time I turn it on until everything is completely loaded, 35 seconds.
It would be 30, but it loads winamp on startup. If it wasn't, the first thing I would do is load it and start playing some tunes.

Oh and, my start up sound is the clock from the intro to 24, my shut down sound was Stong Bad saying "It's about time, why don't you go outside, Nerd!" but when I have my speakers loud for music, it gets on my nerves.

The average is 20 seconds cold boot. The longest was 35 (est.), but I think this was a problem with my UPS . . . it sometimes balks starting that. I am using an ASUS P4P800SE board with a 3.0E P4 (overclocked to 3.15 - for now) and one gig of 400mhz RAM. WinXP pro. RADEON 9200SE video.
