I have a windows 8 laptop. But I've recently upgraded to windows 10. The reason I need a boot disk is because I stupidly uninstalled windows. And it says "insert boot disk and press any key to continue" so should I buy a windows 8 boot disk or a windows 10 boot disk? Does it matter? Thanks!

What Kind of Laptop is this can you give us the whole details on it.

Can you Boot into Bios and make sure that your main board have a UEFI bios? If it's installed Windows 10 in UEFI mode, your boot order should have “Windows boot manager“ as first item on the boot list and or the hard-drive.

Windows 10 would be a good idea you can find ISO on the net.

If you have a second computer that you can use to download an ISO file and then burn it onto a DVD disk you could try: Microsoft Windows ISO Download Tool 2.0
    Good luck,

USB is better i would recommend on using Rufus light program.

    Quick and painless

Make sure you have a ISO download it make's it so much easier.

Make sure you use the Make a windows install not the portable.

Than you can reboot computer and make sure your boot is set to your flash drive.

Windows 8 would have needed the upgrade to Windows 8.1 BEFORE it would have upgraded to Windows 10. Get the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and you can make a USB bootable installation flash drive (8GB flash drive because Windows 10 version 10586.64 is over 4GB in size).

The ISO was available for download from Major Geeks the day before yesterday.

Sorry I've took so long to reply. I have a Toshiba satellite L850D-12P it was originally a windows 8. Then I upgraded to windows 10, I have read the comments and can't I just get a boot disk? Do I need more things?

The difference nowadays is that the downloaded ISO file is 'the disk'. Well it isn't 'the disk' but it gives you the stuff to make it. And once again that isn't true as you need to decide what media you want to create the disk to.
as wile e coyote states but it means you will need a USB stick that is at least 4GB. The first one I came across on flebay was less than £3.
With it and the relevant ISO follow wile e coyote's advice in reply #4 and you will have your disk.
    Good luck,
