So i've got 6 (six) old skool x-boxes, that have stopped playing games, although most if not all will play a game for a bit if you retry enough times.

I assume it's the laser gone in them, so can i just stick a new laser in them and have 6 working boxes?

If not, is ther anything usefull (or even useless if it is cool) i can do with them?

They do have a HDD in each after all, can they be salvaged and used in a PC?

Any ideas at all welcome :)

EDIT: these are all my old xbox's, that i have bought as each one started refusing to load games (have tried lens cleaners also to no avail) so each one has, i presume "died" from the same cause. The one im using now (#7) is starting to get a bit ifffy so i might have an extra one soon aswell :(

Not that I'm aware of, but the consoles themselves can be used for all sorts of fun stuff. Do you have enough that you can pull components out and make a single working one?

Disclaimer: Never used it... my experience is limited to playing around with old Nintendo games on a modded Xbox. So I know it can be done, just won't be able to be of much help. :)

check around, I know when the my ps2 acted like that, it was sort of the laser, but, there was a small dial on teh disk drive that I could give 1/4 turn, in turn, this jacked the laser power back up a bit and presto-bango! it plays fine for a while yet again.
Maybe its possible to that with xbox too ?

Holy hell thats seriously unlucky to have 6 fail on you, having one fail on you is unlucky but seven:confused I got my Xbox when it first came out and its never even stuttered,I still use it to watch DVD's occasionally.

Hmmm what to do with them ? Well you can take the hard drives out and put them in your PC for extra storage, take 4 of them out and set up a 4 drive raid 0 array or as individual drives for more reliability,40 gigs of extra space.

Other than than tape some fireworks to a couple and post it on here:-D

if they all have network abilities, I would install linux on all 6 then make them into a 6 machine super cluster and start hacking RSA encryption

    :-D

You could do that, but for Folding@Home.
