yes this is probably a strange question but i am tired of these cheap mats as they last only a short while. i am looking for 1 that is kids proof and good for gaming and i do a lot of photograhpic stuff. of course it has to be cheap enough, i am about to order a logitec 510 optical mouse.

I use the Logitech wireless optical mouse and I don't use a mouse pad at all anymore.. Works fine.

Personally I just use my table top... but if you want something that's durable, spillproof, etc. check this one out: http://www.xoxide.com/ratpadzgs.html

I had one for use when I was making signs while working at CompUSA.... I even took it home ( shhhh! ) but now i got this killer round MajorGeeks mousepad and use it for everything except gaming. I thought CP was kidding when he said there was a problem w/ optical mice and the area around the logo's sunglasses

I know mirrored surfaces don't work... :\ Try to avoid using anything glossy too like magazine covers and such. The surface I have is a multi-tonal wood pattern, but it works just fine :D

If you're using glass or transparent plastic, frost the area you're working with to get decent performance. :) (or, if you don't fancy etching away at your nice glass topped table... stick some paper underneath the mouse.

Believe it or not the best mouse pad that I have used to date is a clipboard. just a plain brown one and ripped the metal off and put some rubber feet on the top. What ever you use one solid color seems to work best. On normal mouse pads every so often when picking the mouse up and setting it down it seems to jump a few inches. In fps the isnt good at all do to constant resituating of the mouse. Oh yea I use a mx500.

Currently using IceMat v2 its glass with tempered glass finish and black background. EXCELLENT imo for gaming specially FPS. The only 'draw back' is that you need slippery mouse feet for it.
