if I could do it all over again, i would skip buying a cdrw, and just buy a DVDRW, because most burn CD's too. sure it cost a little more, but I think it's worth it, you can get a DVDRW for about $70-$80 dollars. something to think about. But be aware that you may have problems because of your slow processor, check the requirements.

LG, Lite On, are a couple of name brands that we have good luck with. We have been using generic disks with good luck. Theya re all so cheap now it doesn't seem to be necessary to buy no names. you may have to burn at a lower speed, but you should be able to do it just the same.

I've bought about a dozen Lite On cd burners with no problems out of them whatsoever. They're good, reliable, and cheap. Newegg has a Lite On cd/rw combo drive that will also play dvds for 34 bucks.
As for the media, I've had fewer problems out of memorex than other (cheaper) brands. But if you think you'll want a dvd rw as long as you have this 'puter, I agree with MellowMan, spring for it now (but check system requirements first).

Lite-On makes a great drive. As far as best all around drive (DVD included), I'd go with the NEC 3520A its cheap, reliable, and there is literally a cult following that makes firmware for it. If you want to check it out, go tohere and decide for yourself. Also, the Benq/Philips 1620 seems to be good all around drive but I haven't had any personal experience with it.

Although I'm not sure of the specs for it, one guy once reported burning 3 DVDs simultaneously on 3 NEC 3520A's on a P3 500Mhz machine with a 512mb of PC133 ram. It seems a bit outrageous but he is a reputable member of another forum to which I subscribe.
