What client is everyone running?

I just added two identical rigs and put two different clients on them.

On one I have the new SMP 5.91beta console client running as an active program -- I tried to install it as a service but it didn't run correctly after reboot. The problem I saw was that the smpd.exe process would run at ~30% CPU usage, but the FAH core was never engaged. When I did a search this seemed like a common problem with the beta client, but it did work for some users so it may be hardware dependant. So, this is running, but not as a service.

On the other identical rig, I am running the 5.04 console client that was around months ago before I stopped paying attention to folding. This one is running fine as a service.

However, the 5.04 client is processing a WU that is worth 500 points at a slower rate than I get with the 5.19 beta client that is processing a WU worth 1760!! :eek Overall the 5.19 client (if there aren't any other beta related problems) is operating at 4X the point/day rate of the traditional 5.04 console client.

The SMP client requires a dual core processor to operate optimally according to stanford. So, if there are any Pcore2Duo rigs out there in MG folding land, you might want to give this a try.

I have two more computers that I can add this to if I can get the SMP client to run as a service -- they are shared computers, so I don't want to leave a running program on the desktop -- so if anone has figured this out, let us know.

Just realized I didn't give specs on these two rigs. P Core2 Duo 2.8 Ghz, 2gig RAM. Nothing really special -- stock Dell.

I did just notice one caveat of running the SMP client. The WU's I am getting on that machine have a deadline of 4 days max, so slower machines either won't get asigned these WU's or will have them rejected. (Though this probably shouldn't be a problem with newer dual core boxes.

I am running 504 console on three computers each one turns out a WU every 2days or sooner depends on how much the PCs are used and type of WU and i leave the computers running 24/7.

    If i had a C2D i would run the SMP. :(

Do you have it successfully running as a service? If so did you run into any problems. The box I have the SMP client is killing the others running 5.04, so if I can get it to run as a service, it would be great.

Wouldnt run as a service but completed a wu in 19 and a half hours :) after 23 hours at 100 % only between 47 and 49 degrees celcius :p guess it passed the burn in test :) gotta check to see how many points I got on it :p

Wow, you have a beast if you are getting these big WU's in 19 hrs.

My two WU's on the SMP client have been 1760 and 1500. And they run as fast as the larger GROMAC WU's that you get with 5.04.

It definitely made a difference in my daily output.

I can't get into their FAQ, looks like they might of moved the page so I'll ask here. Does this new beta work with AMD X2 3800 CPU's? I'm currently running the service on my second core and the GUI on the first core and as a service on my 1GHz Celeron.

Actually Augie your the only one that I have heard of that is running that config for a dual core. A lot have had problems running the Graphic with the Console on dual cores. But hey if it works don't fix it.

I think you must be asking about the Beta SMP client??
    Hope that helps Augie

Just a note to all the Stanford Site is having its problems once again, so just be patient, we all know the routine by now;)LOL

Thanks for the C&P BC though there's nothing there about AMD products being supported as the Intels are by the above posters. I still can't get to the FAQ, page not found.rolleyes Hurry up and wait though there were no issues loading a new WU today. Anyways, I'll wait 'til the FAQ is back up to see if I can use the SMP beta. Thanks again.

They appear to have rewritten the whole site - it is back up
Looks like they have made some improvements since I was there last

"Recommended software (based on information furnished by your browser)"

.... or maybe I previously wasn't paying enough attention ;)

may still be a work in progress though as i could not find a link to all of the parameters for the console ?
