What corporations can, and routinely do, engage in widespread spying on the public online? Other than Microsoft, Google and Facebook, I mean.

Is there a reason for this question...Do you think you are being tracked through you're phone or computer.

No, not at all, I'm just sick of being tracked by corporate entities like Microsoft, Google and Facebook, who constantly pitch ads at me and seem to know a lot about me even though I block cookies, and wipe off any that do get on my computer every night. I'll try always using a VPN from now on and see if that throws them off my track. I'm curious because, just on general principle, I object to them keeping tabs on me.

There's no way to completely block multi-billion-dollar monsters from tracking you and knowing you... especially if you use their "free" products. These are some of the things I do - they are not at all 100% effective - but they're enough for me (your mileage may vary):

    1. Windows OS: turn off all "privacy" and "features" options that you don't use in Settings.
    2. Internet: Use alternative DNS from your own ISP provider - such as OpenDNS.
    3. Browsers: turn off all telemetry options - turn on all blockers/filters as appropriate
    4. Browsers: add uBlock Matrix, AdGuard, PrivacyBadger extensions to block out ads.

Esp. with #4 -- While I'm sure Amazon, Google, sundry websites still know shitload of stuff about me, I don't see their ads at all - and in that sense, I am not affected and don't mind as much. For 'sensitive' browsing, use VPN and search with either StartPage or Duckduckgo.

How many? As many as possibly can and the biggest one being the government the Patriot act having put that in motion so I decided ways back that they know where I am they know what I'm doing and I'm to the point where I really don't care I mean if they want to read my emails more power to them and God bless them if they want to see what I'm looking at online well I think they'll be very disappointed. They know who we are they know where we are they know what we're doing.
I guess the question is when needed to define "they". Then decide what to do with it.....

Y'all be careful and stay safe

I think the only way to avoid any tracking is to not go on the web and ditch your cell phone. Good luck.

Also: don't have health insurance, no prescriptions, don't have a bank account, no credit or debit card and don't use any loyalty cards anywhere.

Also, don't buy anything on line...don't search for any items on line and don't click on any ads on line.

You can cut off all of the above... and the government still knows all the details about you - starting with your birth certificate, social security records, tax records, etc., etc., etc.

And not setting up accounts has its own risks too! I've set up online accounts with IRS, FTB (California), Social Security, and the three credit reporting agencies - to help prevent bad characters from using my information to masquerade as me - such as filing a bogus tax return in my name to obtain fraudulent tax refund. Having accounts with the credit reporting agencies makes it trivially easy to freeze my records to make it that much harder for bad characters to fraudulently obtain credit cards, etc. under my name -- I unfreeze them temporarily when needed (such as when applying for a new credit card).

And with online banking set up... I get near-instant notifications whenever there's a withdrawal from my account or a charge to my credit card, etc. In the past, I wouldn't know until I pore through the next monthly statement! So, while online transactions open up some risks, they also provide powerful tools previously unavailable.

But back to topic: what about government, institutions, companies knowing 'everything' about us? For me, I "plug the holes" I can (as above) and then "block" all ads/mailings that I can (I rarely receive junk calls, mail, or email). I contribute to this and a few other websites that I frequent. But no, I never see any ads here, and almost never elsewhere either. :)

Not seeings ads doesn't mean you aren't tracked. ;)

I know, not too far-fetched, right? So, the government made microscopic nanochips that are somehow powerful enough to broadcast through the human body and through all obstacles, including not only mountains but even the curvature of the Earth, for hundreds of miles, back to the government’s dish antennas, which can simultaneously track the chips from all of the 534 million Covid vaccine doses administered so far in the U.S. alone…?

So here’s what I want to know: how come no one noticed the trillions of dollars allocated in the federal budget to set this all up?!
