What counts as anti-virus?

Your Read Me instructions start with:

There is now a new breed of anti-malware programs which are neither as well-known as Norton or McAfee AV, but are not just online scanners either.

I'm thinking particularly of SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. They now sit there in the system tray and on Explorer menus, just like the classic AV programs, and act very much like them.

So, when you say you should have one AV program installed, does that mean the MAM and SAS should also be uninstalled, or at least de-activated before carrying out any of the more sensitive bits of system cleaning?

Might these programs too start detecting each other as potential malware?

Where do programs like Ad-Aware fit into the modern arsenal of malware combat?

Neither MBAM nor SAS are AV programs. They are safe to keep both on your system as they look for different things. ( Just don't run them at the same time. )

Ad-Aware is useless these days and you are better served with MBAM and SAS.

We are saying not to have multiple AV programs, such as AVG and Norton. Or Kaspersky and MSE. Or any combination of the available AV programs that are out there.
