hi, i made a better-looking post earlier but it never went through. forgive me for making this brief.

i need a device that will receive wireless internet and transmit it through ethernet jacks (two or more). preferably netgear-- i'm trying to connect my netgear router in the living room to my dektop and xbox in my room. thanks

Lemme get the ducks in a row and correct me if i'm wrong in what you're asking...

You want to send a wireless signal from the living room to a "wireless device" in your room that converts it to a wired signal to send to your desktop and xbox?

Might I suggest you use a wireless router in the living room and use wireless adapters for your desktop and xbox.

If you can, give a brief description of the equip you already have... maybe we can come up with a better network layout.

cheers and good luck. let us know.

i want a single, external device rather than a separate component for each of my internet-needing devices-- a wireless card for my PC and a wireless adapter for my xbox would be almost $200, and i wouldn't be able to add any more devices to the internet without their own wireless adapters. i just want a box that will act as a surrogate ethernet jack for multiple devices.

my current router is a netgear rangemax wireless router, designation WPN824.

and thank you for helping me with this

To my knowledge I'm not aware of a cost-effective residential device/setup that would be better than wireless adapters for each device or even a wireless media converting device with multiple ports to service more than one device at a time.

Sorry to leave you hanging, maybe another member can chime in.

For less head aches I still think it would be cheaper to just grab an adapter for each... but please let me know if you find such device.

Basically you're looking for some type of wireless to ethernet media converter... you'd prob still need one each.

good luck and sorry I couldn't help you more.

    cheers

thanks again, but i can't believe that there is no such device. there are only so many different things a router/access point/bridge can do, and one of them must do this.

    Nick 29A,

Don't get me wrong there are such devices, but none really for cost effective residential use. We're talking hundreds/thousands here and i've really only seen such devices in ISP scenarios etc.

The technology is there and utilized... just not in SOHO applications.

    Once again though, good luck.

Sorry to be of little help.

but the WNHDE111 can only do that if i have TWO units... so the cost would be over $200. i can't use my router with one of those because my router is b/g and the WNHDE111 is a/n
