I have a computer that my friend built for me and I have been slightly upgrading from time to time. I have a Western Digital 30G as my Master and WD 120G as my slave drive. I'm not sure how much ram I have and I am running windows xp on it. About a year ago I bought my western digital 120G Hard Drive for it and every three months or so the hard drive crashes. I talked to another friend of mine and he said that it is probably corrupt and that western digital has really good warranties on their products. Well today I went to take it out so that I could get the serial # for the return. Well when I turned my computer back on it came up with a boot failure and told me to reboot and select proper boot device. Well I thought that maybe it was my jumper because I had left it on but when i took it off it still said the same thing. I also tried to plug it back in the exact same way it was before with both hard drives, but nothing happened. I know a tiny bit about computers but for the most part I am lost. Hopefully someone can help? Thanks for your time. -Jeremy

    welcome to the forums!

what could have happened is that in the process of taking it out or putting it back in, you fried your other hard drive (or both, who knows). i've seen that happen before. my friend kills every hard drive he touches. ask your friend to test out both hard drives and see if they work

Now, let's hope it doesn't come to replacing both drives. plug only ONE in. now, does the computer sense the drive's presense? if so, then it can be recoverable. if not, keep trying different configurations. if it's still a no go, then the controller board is indeed fried.

Well, it does not look like my computer is reading the drive at all. So could it be the jumper is in the wrong spot or maybe the ribbon thing that connects it to my mother board. any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
    thanks jeremy.
