what do i do with this?

    hi all

    my pc is running on win Xp pro, version 2002, service pack 1. A friend gave me a disc for win Xp service pack 2 with advanced security technology.

    he tried to install it, after about 3 min a error message appeared stating something about my system isnt in kernel mode.

    do i need to install this win xp service pack 2? and whats the 'kernel mode' about?
