What do I Need to start a personal network

    I want to start a local network with three computers and have internet on all of them from a single dsl modem with one line out. what do I need? Do I just need a switch or do I need a routerwith a switch?

    You will need a router that will give out IP private addresses. Linksys, Netgear and D-Link are the most popular. If you are thinking about going wireless anytime in the near future you should purchase a wireless router.

    Yes that appears to be a Apple router. I don't know how good it is for PC's. Talking about setup and such.
