That is 500 kilobits per second.

Direcway is probably the largest provider.

AFAIK, Sattelite does not reach megabit speed.

Then you have to consider the built in latency.

If you are an online gamer, stick with 56k, it will be better.

Direcway guarrantees 200 kbps but I generally average 800-900. Once in a while I hve reached 1300 but not often. Gaming depends on the type of games you play. My son games on the internet (strategy) and he has no problems. all in all, I love my satellite internet.

200kbps that would be like downloading something at a speed of say for example 20.8 kbs a second, right?

I just gave away my Satellite Internet connection and the speed was about that of the lowest DSL deal (about 512 kbits), but it varied a lot. Sometimes it was unbelievably fast, at other times I was pathetically slow.

My advice: considering that satellite generally requires a massive investment (mine costed thousands of dollars to install plus a costly monthly bill) and isn't all too reliable, the choice is pre-made. If you want to go fast, get DSL or Cable.
