I think its gonna really mix things up now that there wont be ATI chipsets for Intel procs anymore....It should really open up the door for other chipset manufacturers like VIA and SIS

It makes sense for AMD. It's an untapped market for them and to acquire a dominant player like ATI to compete is for 1.. lucky to have them and 2.. a gold mine if they tweak the business in the right spots.

I think I should have invested in ATI instead of Nvidia,Dang!:)mixed reaction really the performance gaming market favour AMD+nvidia combo,if AMD switch thier efforts to increasing performance with ATI cards ect and silly little projects,Intel could sweep around the backdoor and clean up the gaming market,IMO most gamers select thier video card first then look at cpu

I think this will backfire, they did this to hurt intel, Intel will now use nvidia, so who lose"s, Ati, and with 70% of the market, Intel wins. I am also a Amd,nvidia fan. ed

I don't think it was a smart move, financially for AMD, and I don't think it'll change much, but it may become an unfair market, in favour of AMD. But both sides have their own target markets.

AMD has had a fine year. They've beaten back the INTEL juggernaut to the tune of 10,500 jobs lost. That's a very significant gouging of the INTEL market share. So, being flush with cash, AMD's either going to pay tax, pay a shareholder's dividend, increase the CEO's compensation, increase the worker's pensions and salary or invest in technology. So they decided that investing in technology is a pretty good deal. With ATI ( a Canadian Company) under their control, they get a revenue stream from Nintendo and XBox360 as well as the superb line of discrete video cards. AMD has already, had a major success with the nVidia collaboration, so I'm very confident that ATI and AMD will be equally dazzling. :)

I'm sad that a great little Canadian company (yeah, I'm Canadian) got bought out buy a super-huge corporation -but I'm hoping that this new AMD/ATI will have better support for Linux.
