What does this tell you...

Before i toss this laptop out the window.. What does this tell you about it.

I been runnin it all day as i always do. Just browser n messenger, periodically i'll listen to music.

Anyhow I go n run a AntiVirus Scan n halfway into it shuts down to due heat cuz of cpu usage. :mad

Do i need more ram? A new thermal kit or is my CPU fried? So sick of this <language deleted by Administrator. Please keep it appropriate for all ages>.. Ill run my scan logs tommorrow morning off a cold start.

Might be time for some cleaning, a through cleaning can involve some dismantling

 

Yup. Even without taking it apart, a can of compressed air blown through all fans and vents can really help. If you can remove just the fan covers, you may be surprised by the amount of gunk packed in there. I've seen huge wads of hair wrapped around the fans so they barely moved at all. A laptop pad is 'cool' idea too. (I couldn't resist the lame pun). It's a platform that's roughly the dimensions of a laptop PC, about 5/8 of an inch thick, with a couple of fans that blow air upward. You'd set your laptop on it and it's powered by a USB port on the PC. They really can make a difference and seldom cost more than $25...

 

ASUS and dlb summed it up nicely. You might want to consider reaplying the TIM on the CPU heatsink in addition to a good cleaning. I have been running my little Dell 1.6GHz at 100% for a while with SpeedswitchXP and FAH maxing it out 24/7. The laptop cooler helps.
