    I have an older computer with Windows XP SP3 and I just installed a used, internal DVD RW drive, it did not come with any software. The drive works great, I can play DVD movies, I can format and burn CDs, BUT, I can't format a DVD so I can't burn to it. The only software I have Roxio CD Easy CD Creator 5 but it won't format a DVD, only a CD. I have looked at and downloaded several freeware mulitmedia dvd burning programs from majorgeeks but they didn't offer formatting. Is there a freeware program here that I can download that will format a DVD?

    Hello,
    Try Imgburn and see if that works for you. A very powerful burning program.

    Edit: You only need to format if you want to use packet writing software to make the DVD act like a large floppy.

    To do a format in Imgburn:
    Tools -> Drive -> Erase -> Full

    if you mean to format video files to burn to DVD,try this one,it also has imgburn built into it,the reformatting can be a little time lengthy,but it'll burn almost any type of video format on a playable disc that'll work on most DVD players.
