Ok not a problem as such just wish to expand my knowledge.
I have a QDI superb 4 mobo with sis 645 chipset (i dont know what any of that means).
My CD drive recntly gave up the ghost so when i had to re-install i did it from the mobo recovery option.
It all worked beautifully and restored my comp to an earlier date.
    Q. does the mobo carry out a re-format when it recovers the c drive.
Q.How come its 10 times quicker than using the XP disc.
Q.How can the mobo hold so much data.
Q.Whats the point of re-installing from a disc when this is easier and faster.
Q.Am i breaking any rules by storing the OS like this.

Like i say its not a problem just want to understand how it works/whats happening.

    Cheers nforce

Please step in and correct me if I'm wrong - Anybody - and forgive me for some very non-technical terms, but when I look at recovery, I think that what it does is make a log of any and all changes, almost like a snapshot or "picture" of the way the system is at any given time. When you perform a recovery, it just matches everything back up to the "picture" that was taken - or the restore point. This "picture" or restore point is not very big, because in effect it is a log, and not an exact copy of the drive.
