I have hotmail email cuz I use MSN IM on trillian, I dont bother use hotmail cuz of spamming even I never give out my address. So hotmail is famous for spams, same as yahoo. If you want decent email without spams, use attbi or comcast on outlook express. I never receive one spam for 2 years on it lol. Cuz I kept it private. I just checked my hotmail email cuz MSN IM on trillian said I have email, I went ok I bet there other spams, went to check, yep I was right.

There are a few sites dedicated to SPAM checking: http://www.spamcop.com/

    also : http://www.spamcop.net/

Seen this problem elsewhere - your e-mail seems to have been hijacked as the originator.

One person I know who had forged emails that used their address for a spamming operation, needless to say its unsavoury material. Using sam spade they found the admin of the website being 'advertised' and emailed a complaint to them hoping they'll remove the website. Also need to track down the website ISP and complain to them.

Spam is one of the frequent topics of discussion that keeps on reoccurring at my company.

This cures my spam everytime :), usually at the bottom of a spam email it says in small font like unsuscribe...Click that or follow instructions that is has, it usually shows what other like spam types you have supposedly suscribed for. It always keeps me good, I just unsuscribe and I usually don't get any emails from them again....:) also you may want to turn up the junk mail filter settings on your hotmail account or if it's coming from one adress just block the @spamorwhatever.com

Mmmmm sorry I just read one part of your post.....well you could try to use the subject line, I believe you can redirect emails by what's in the subject line, so just send all your spam to some folder or to your trashcan if they all have the same subject...like "Open me man!" or something but it might cause you an annoyance if someone else you know uses that....

yep, just use a mail rule to direct mail to be deleted.

    Bad idea.
Anyway if I read the post right the problem is that spam is being sent from not to the account.

Yeah I said later in my post another way to fix it and that I read it wrong...

    Anyway I found your cure

Not all junk mail (spam) you receive from an @hotmail.com address is from a legitimate Hotmail account. In order for us to best assist you, please help us by identifying the true origin of the e-mail message you received.

Change your Mail Display Settings to include Full Headers by going to MSN Hotmail Options and clicking Mail Display Settings under Additional Options. Under Message Headers, select Full. Click OK.
Search for the following line of text in the message header: X-originating-IP. An example looks like this:
    Sat 02 June 2001 13:47:27 PST
    X-Originating IP: [123.4.567.89]
    From: "Scarlett O' Hara"
    Scarlett0gwtw@hotmail.com

If you are unable to locate an X-originating-IP line in the header of the message, this indicates the message has been forged and is not from a legitimate Hotmail account. Unfortunately, we are unable to take action against this account because it does not implicate a Hotmail member. For more information on how to use Hotmail's Junk Mail Filter or Block Sender feature to remove unwanted spam, consult Hotmail's comprehensive online help by clicking Help in the upper right hand corner of your Hotmail Home Page.
If you find an X-originating-IP line in the header of the message, forward a complete copy of the message, including the full message headers to abuse@hotmail.com.
    Note

If you are not a Hotmail user and you receive spam from a Hotmail account, please consult the Help associated with your e-mail program to determine how to view complete (full) header information. Then follow steps 2 through 4 above.

    Good luck.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i still don't think thats what is happening. His email address is not the receiver of spam, but the sender of spam...right?

Oh well maybe this will help anyhow...well maybe someone is hijacking his hotmail...password change? Or trojan scan?

I'm thinking either a password change, or even a whole new account.

im clean ive done everying. i think someone is just sending an email and putting my email address as the reply to and from fields

Password change is no good for forged/hijacked e-mail.

Good idea to create a new e-mail account and close the old one unless you really need to keep the e-mail address. Then you probably need to try and track the originator or filter the junk.

Hopefully you aren't being accused of creating the spam. One thought though is if someone replied to the spam message for which you have a non-delivery receipt then the information to send back to the spammer may be somewhere in the receipt.

you can create any emai account you want. I can still spoof it with a simple SMTP server. Makes no difference what you do. The only difference is that the header info would be different than that of the original address. That is the only way to tell.

send yourself an email and compare the header info. if it's the same, then your account is being used. If it's different than it's a spoof using any SMPT server out there in the free world.

You want to dump Hotmail anyway.
    Way too risky.
I will not go into how to do it, but take my word there are security problems in the scripting paths available in IE using Hotmail.
Use Yahoo and Mozilla and you can lock things down pretty well.
