What is a post?

What is a post? What is a thread? If this is a post if it is asking the question or is this a thread? If this is a post is the only place to make a post at the NEW WELCOME section? I can't find the answer to these questions anywhere. At the bottom of this page it says submit new thread - preview post. So this must be a thread. How do you make a post? Do you post a thread?

 

A post is a reply a person has made to someone elses thread.
A thread is a question posted by someone and all the responses to it.
We have different forums you can post in, as seen here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/
You can make a new post and thus start a thread or reply to someone elses thread, which is a post.

You might be confused still at this point.

lets take you for example.
You have started a new thread , and I have replied to your thread, thus i have made a new post.

So an original question or statement is a thread and all responses to it are posts. If a comment is made to one of the posts in a thread, that branches into its own thread. Got it. That makes sense.

 

First comes an OP, or "original post". Replies to the original post are also posts, and together, they form a thread. The term "post" is a holdover from the old BBS (Bulletin Board System) days where the terminology was analogous to physical bulletin boards, such as those found on college campuses and elsewhere.
