What is my best option ?

The other night my old rebuilt computer bit the dust. I can hear the fan running when I power it on, but that's it....just a black screen. The next day I bought a brand new computer. Unfortunately, I didn't back everything up like I should have, so, now most of my data is locked away on the hard drive of the old one. I have been thinking of several ways to get the data out of it, and here are some possibilities I've thought of:

    1. Take the old computer to a Tech and have him get it up and running, back up all the data and transfer that to my new computer and use the old one as a spare.

    2. Take the old Computer to a Tech and have him somehow extract the data from the hard drive and feed it into the new computer.....and I would do that myself if I knew how.

    3. Take the hard drive out of the old computer and temporarily install it into the new one and back everything up on discs.....that is, if the old hard drive is compatible with the new computer.

    4. Buy an old computer that still runs, for real cheap and install the old hard drive into that and back everything up on discs, then transfer to the new one.

I'm good at tinkering with stuff like that as long as I know it's safe and logical to do so, but I need some advice from some experts here before I take any risks. Any advice on what would be the best option(s)? Thanks.

If you install the HDD in the new PC it should show up as an extra HDD and you will be able to use your data directly from it.

If you take it to a tech they will charge you a lot of money to do what is a simple job.

When you say "extra" HDD, do you mean I could have two HDD's in the same computer, or do you mean a temporary replacement?

I have 5 HDDs at the moment, as mentioned it is dependent on you tower having bays to hold them.
