:confused Okay, the only stupid question is the one not asked. And I do have several. So here goes. I am looking for the best free anti virus and malware programs. I do have AVG and i have spybots, and ad aware. I have used these for years because, here on majorgeeks, I was told to. I trust this site greatly. Also, when I access the site, there are lots of advertisements. My question about these is : Do you recommend them? Thanks in advance for the help....

    Hi

Do the programs you mention keep or have kept you free from malware? If so then keep using them as they work for you, while the likes of Avast, Spywareblaster and keeping Windows upto date works for me.

    What you have is fine.

If you want direct recommendations, I alternate between Avira Free, AVG Free and Avast Free editions, and all three are great. I have all of them, on different computers, and which one I recommend to friends depends on them and their level of knowledge and what they need.

If you have AVG and you are happy with it, by all means keep it. It's a very competent anti-virus.

    LOL What Halo said.

Dump Ad-Aware and keep the free versions of SuperAntispyware and MalwareBytes Anti-malware.

Also, you said in your post you have Spybot already. Keep that one, but turn off Teatimer, since that tends to really slow your system down.

Thanks so very much.. I got these programs from this site years ago. Tea timer is off. Now what about all of the programs that advertise on this site? Are they recommended by MajorGeeks? This is a wonderful site. A while back, about 2-3yrs ago, I got a something on my computer. So needless to say I tried adAware and it wouldn't run. So I tried to come straight to majorGeeks. Of course, whatever was on my computer refused to allow me to access this site. It was definitely afraid of you guys. I eventually found the program and had to manually remove it. But I just loved the fact that I was unable to get here for help. It is a testament to ya'll. This is an awesome site and I THANK all of you who help on here. Hats off to ya'll. Okay, enough of the mushy. I tried Avira and got too many pop-ups from it. It was Avira ads. I am a facebook addict and play many of the games, including mafia wars. I am worried about a hacker getting into my computer via those I add to play.
