what is the best freeware media player

what is the best freeware media player? winamp randomly locks up on me when i play a music file and when playing music cds it hesitates for a couple of seconds aftet i change tracks, i don't like using windows media player because it's sound quality to me is not real good.

Works fine for me and plays everthing that I've thrown at it thus far. It's free and open source

I've already tried media player classic and didn't care for it,going to try winamp 5.11, thanks anyway to all that have responded.
