    Hi,

I just bought New Dell PC with following Specs :

    64 bit Windows -7 ( Home Premium )

    Intel Core i7-2600 Processor (3.4GHz, 8MB Cache)

    12GB DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz Memory

500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive with Native Command Queuing

    1GB ATI Radeon? HD5770 Graphics

My old PC also has 500 GB HDD with Data

I want to remove the Win 7 Home Premium from new PC & Install Win -7 Ultimate 64 bit on new HDD.

Then Transfer data from old HDD to New HDD.

What is the best way of doing it ?

Do I need to fool around with Bios etc because the New PC has come with Win -7 Home Premium but I want to Install Win -7 Ultimate.

Also waht is the best way of Transferring data from old HDD to New HDD ?

    Thank You.

    Greetings, georgetok.

You shouldn't have to do anything in BIOS regarding the two versions of Win 7.

As far as transferring data, two options are:

    1. Install the old HD in the new machine as a slave device.

    2. Use a USB adapter to transfer externally, such as this one.

Sorry to hop in on this one Caliban, but does it have to be a USB adapter to transfer externally, such as this one , can you not just use a normal USB to USB adapter !

Please correct me if i'm wrong ! As i'm not too offay with this, and are just asking the question really !

    Hey, Rusty.

Yeah, I think you'd have to use an adapter like the one illustrated - a SATA drive doesn't have a USB port, so you have to supply power and a means of transport.

That is, unless you hook up from one computer to another via USB, but that can lead to all kinds of handshake problems between the operating systems. IMO, it's easier to mount the drive as a slave or in a discrete enclosure, and just drag the files over.

But that's my opinion. When Robin said to Batman: "Gee, Batman - you know everything!", Batman replied: "No, Robin - there are one or two things I don't know."

    ;)
