Look at the KDS CRTs from Office Depot.Catch them on sale, and you can usually pick up an OD coupon code from a deal site when they are. I saw a 17" last month for under $100 after rebate and coupon. They have some LCDs pretty cheap right now, too, but I haven't seen them. I've had a KDS 17" flat CRT on my desktop at work for over 5 years with no problems.

The Cheapest one would beeeeee, FREE!
    "LOL"

Those KDS CRT's are actually very nice, I bought my wife a 17" at Walmart for about $99, has three year warranty, Flat screen CRT.
I'm very impressed with the picture Quality & she's using onboard video, it's about 1 1/2yrs old. The color matches her Emachine to the TEE.

    Another note!
If ya want ta save some money, look in your area for computer resale shop or computer trading shows, good CRT's 17" can be had $25 to $50.
Lot of resale shops resale previously leased goods, some offer warranty.

    LCD's I'd only buy new.

Well, first off the crt is always going to be cheaper than an lcd. I would go with the suggestions made in this thread about the KDS CRTs. You can also get some good deals if you google refurbished monitors and buy them from a reputable dealer. I'm using a refurbished 21" CRT that I got from a retailer for $150 US. Not a bad deal considering I've had the monitor for over a year and no problems at all.

A mate of mine bought a brand new Philips 17" CRT monitor for $80 AUS last year, and he's never had a problem with it. It can refresh at up to 200hz!!! I'm serious!! I didn't believe it at first, but then I had a look in the owner's manual.

Generally, most CRT Monitors are cheap unless you're looking for a flat CRT which are a step up. they give a much clearer picture than standard CRT's though. If you want an LCD, advantages are there is less strain on your eyes, cos staring at a CRT all day can be bad for your health (I knew a guy once before they introduced low radiation screens, he'd just got a new game. he played it non-stop for 3 days, and when he finished it, his face was all red and burnt!! ). LCD's also use a lot less power than CRT's, but they have low refresh rates, making them terrible for games and movies.

I've been using an old samsung sync-master 15GLe for 5 years now (which i got for FREE from dad's work), it used to be on an AST UNIX terminal, and it's 9 years old. I've never had a problem with it. It needs some slight re-alignment, but that comes with age anyway.

In general though, I recommend Flat CRT for Movies, Standard CRT for Games, and LCD for office work (word processing, etc...). ;)

    Here you go: http://www.officedepot.com/ddSKU.do?id=558866

19" KDS Flat CRT $89.99 after rebates. Read the rebate window carefully -- there are two rebates, one for $50 and one for $30.

Use this coupon code to drop it another $30: 12925578
