What is the Differance???

Ok Yall I need to know what the differance between a Router and a Hub is? I was told it was the router will not seperate ip addresses between comps and a hub will.

Now just so Yall know what I am trying to do here.... I have 4 computers and they are connected to a wired hub at the moment which gives them there own ip addy and I want to go wireless.So I did a search for wireless HUBs on the net and I am getting routers.

So is it different for wireless? Can I use a router or do I still need a hub to keep seperate IP addys?

A hub is a less intelligent device and you share the bandwidth, so multiple users on the internet at the same time will feel the crunch. The router is more intelligent hence the price difference.The added intelligence allows the router to slice the bandwidth into time segments so that everyone gets maximum bandwidth while online.I hope that helps.

You can connect using only wireless with the router ...and multi-puters off of the hubs.

So you saying I can only do wireless with a router so will a router split up my ip addys?

Router will assign ip addresses ....wired or wireless ....so you could have multiple puters on wireless ....then with each hardwire port on the router, hubs which then go to multiple hardwired puters to the hubs ....all will get ip addresses assigned.
