What is the difference between Windows and Linux hosting?

Hi everyone! I have a website on a windows hosting plan and I want to add a forum to it. I have phpbb3 and I want to upload and install it at my site but I am unsure if it will work on a windows host. I can always change my hosting over to linux but I don't know if my site will work with linux. My questions are #1 Will PHPBB3 work on a windows host? and #2 Will my site which consists of 24 pages of html work on a linux host? I don't have any web apps or anything on my site just one contact form which uses gdform.asp to return data to my email. Thanks for the help and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if it needed to go in Programming or Networking.

Depends if your windows host offers php, often a windows host will offer asp features and nix hosts will offer php. As far as i know, not many hosts offer both.

 

My host is GoDaddy

 

So check with godaddy support, as i dont have a godaddy account to access there support people.

 

Thanks Colemanguy, I've already submitted a support ticket. I just have little patience and hoped to get some answers here quicker. Oh well, no big I'll just have to wait. They are pretty quick and I will probably have an answer by tomorrow or the next. Thanks anyway, Chris
