I have a Dell Latitude E6410 laptop I bought online for parts to have incase something goes wrong with my good one. Come to find out after me taking my hard drive out of the good one and putting it in the parts one, it worked just fine. The processor is however, a 2.0. I would like to find a better processor for it, but I do not know the difference from a desktop processor and a laptop processor. Can someone please explain the difference for me?

It is dependent on the system board. Some laptops do not have a socket which has the potential for upgrade. The CPU is permanently soldered to the system board.

Fortunately, it looks like your board(s) have a socket. You could try and find a new CPU for upgrade, or get a working pull from somewhere like StarMicro.

The support for a CPU is wholly dependent on the BIOS unicode. If you do choose to upgrade, you may need to flash the latest BIOS before doing so.

Download CPU-Z. It will tell you exactly what cpu you currently have. You can check its full specs and it's Thermal Design Power (TDP, heat output) at CPU World.

For CPU upgrade this may help.

Putting in an SSD, if you do not already have one, will yield the single biggest performance boost as already stated in this thread and in the thread (above) from Dell.

    Good Luck
