I hooked up a Trendnet router wired to my Dad's computer. My daughter obtains wireless access to her laptop there. They had a power outage and now neither can connect to the internet. I do not want to have to travel there. Should I have them start by resetting router? Is the proper way to unplug modem first wait 30 sec, unplug router wait 30 sec, replug router wait 30 sec. and replug modem wait 30 sec.? Is this the correct order or is it mixed up. And also should either computer be on during this? And if not, does the wired one go on first? I imagine I may have to set up their network again? Please save me a trip, but both of them are not very computer savy. Thanks

unplugging the router will not reset it. There is usually a master reset on the back of the router (depending on your router). look for the manual on your router and it will (or should) show you where the master reset is.
By the way are they getting a error message, are all the lights to the router on, can you connect to the internet via of just the modem, can you log into the router???

You do not need to push the reset button whenever, for any reason, one or more computers lose internet access. This happens to me. We have 4 computers and sometimes one loses the way. So I do this OR on one of the wired computers, bring up a command prompt and type the following commands in:
    ipconfig /release <enter>
    ipconfig /renew <enter>
This takes the IPs the router has handed out and erases them (release) then the renew command gives the computers an new IP. Those commands can be done while the computers are on.
I pull the power from the modem first, then the router and wait at least one minute. Put the power back to the modem and wait until the lights go from flashing green to solid green then put the power back to the router. I usually have the computers off when I do this.
