Received this strange connector with left and right audio, video, and S-video jack and opposite has a rectangular connector with 20 pins. Also has a switch marked Input/Output.

Thought I'd ordered a USB video capture adapter.

    I don't think I can attach a picture here.

    Thanks

You certainly can attach a picture.
    1. Take a picture with your phone.
    2. Move the picture to your computer.
    3. At the bottom of the post message box, click Upload a File.
    4. Search for it on your computer and it will upload.

I don't think I've ever seen a male connector like that. It looks bent on the left side and straight on the right side.
I'll have to see if I can dig up a female port that accepts a connector like that.

It a scart adapter, used for TVs which have a Scart socket but no audio/video or S-Video socket.

Three of our tvs are old from 1989, 1991 and 1996. None of them have a Scart socket. I guess that's why I never saw one. They have one connection for the cable wire - that's it.

I had to attach an RF modulator to two of the tvs so I could attach something other than the DTA box needed to get the digital cable signal. I have a DVD player attached to the kitchen tv and a VCR/DVD combo attached to the basement tv. That gives me the yellow (video) and red and white (audio) RCA sockets.

    Ah, wikipedia said this:
That's probably why I never saw one and Virginia knew exactly what it was. She lives in Europe and I live in the US.

I remember using one to connect a Nintendo console to the TV before HDMI.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Unfortunately the adapter is useless to me. I have contacted the seller.

Tell us what you want to do and what hardware you have. Also the OS on the computer. We can then probably point you to a piece of hardware that will do what you want.

The plan was to use one of these but only received part of the order. Seller has been contacted and hopefully issue will be resolved.
Thanks everyone. Will update if and when this gets resolved.

In other words, you want to transfer VHS tapes to the computer.
I found this video very helpful

If you google this "capture and convert VHS to digital" you'll find hardware and more YouTube videos.

Thanks. Yes I have been handed a family VCR tape which I would like to copy to computer and distribute copies.

As for the lost partition it isn't the end of the world. Just a Winamp library and movies d/l'ed of the past several years. The backup is a little behind. Stupid move. Should know by now to make a current backup before messing with something new. But a pen drive....................? Really?

I just bought myself a video capture card, the BlueAVS used by this guy. I also bought the RCA to HDMI converter that the guy used. I have the other cables.

They should arrive on Monday so if I have time next week, I'll attempt this and give a report as to how I managed.

First problem I encountered: the VCR the guy in the video has, shows he has 3 RCA ports white, red and yellow. My two VCRs have 4 ports on the back a white and yellow marked in and a white and yellow marked out. I went searching and discovered, I need an audio splitter cable, which fortunately I have. I plugged the white and red plugs into it and plugged the one remaining audio plug into the white out RCA port. The yellow video plug went into the yellow out port.

Second problem: the current version of OBS only supports 8.1 and above. We own only Windows 7 and lower computers. I went to the forum and found a thread saying version 25.04 will work on Win 7. The current version is 27 something. I downloaded v 25.04 and will install it later.

We had high winds last night and since there was a possibility we might lose power, I decided to not do a thing.

Later today I will tackle a tape and see how it goes.

I'm posting the problems I encountered here so if anyone decides to do this, they can look at the VCR and purchase another needed cable.
