Can someone tell me what asp.net is, and why a "user, limited account" with that name has suddenly appeared on my computer. Password protected, no less.

I googled it, and know that it is microsoft, but how did it get where it is, and HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?

    Thanks

Sorry, I should have included my OS. Yes, it's XP home.

I have full admin powers, and I didn't create the user. It doesn't show on the login screen, and I wouldn't have found out it was there if I hadn't run across it in control panel by accident.

I recently downloaded and installed all the updrades for the OS and Media player from Microsoft in an attempt to solve a glitch. That includes service pack 1 Could it have come in on that?

I understand from google that it is a web development tool. I can understand it being on my PC. I have no idea how much garbage is residing on my hard drive. I want to know how it got it's own logon id.

I removed the password, and I'm gonna delete the it. In a little while, unless someone tells me that is unwise.

    thanks...

Well if it's a web tool maybe it's like those remote access software and somehow someone connected to your computer and did that? I would suggest getting a firewall if you don't have one or turning it up to highest securtiy level again if it isn't at it.

You have just installed the .NET framework, havn't you? Thats where it comes from, and its probably a good idea if you dont delete it or it gets irritated when it trys to run things within the framework, as it will run it under that name

CORRECTION : it will get irritated if you try to run asp.NET files within the framework. You dont do any web development, do you?

If not then you probably CAN delete it

I don't know what the .NET framework is.

Does that mean I can delete it?

It bugs me that i don't know how it got there. I may not be a Geek, but I know enough about computers to know that programs shouldn't do that.
