LOL I was looking for more of a region than a description, Tim.

But, thank you for the reply. I have to say I was worried the only one would be mine. :-D

Sounds like a London accent? When I heard him on your YT clip he reminded me of Michael Caine who was from London. But then who is to know unless you search wikipedia? :cool

Really? It does? That's where he's from, so that makes sense, but I don't remember Londoners sounding like that when I was there.

Erm, the Brits will confirm yes or no I hope.

BTW: This is a clip with Michael Caine. He has the Cockney accent, spoken in East London (I think). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBjp1oEZcwU

When we were in London in 1974 for a long weekend we really didn't notice any British accents either since we were lodged in a tourist area and visited typical tourist sites. Got to be British to enjoy the lukewarm beer. :-D

Agree with Oma, Tim Roth normally has a fairly well spoken London accent (as per second video) but in your clip Laura he has put on more of a rough East end'ish accent similar to that of Cristian Bale IMO.

Yep. That second clip sounds more like I remember the London accent sounding.

I was curious about his Lie to Me one where it does sound a bit rough.

    Thanks Ned.:)

lol you also have to remember Laura that London and surrounding areas have many different accents, North, East, South, West and then variants, after that you add the class system and basically double the number lol

In the top clip he is simply using that classic street wise accent by changing "TH" to "F" , "Something" becomes "Sumfing" and he's changing L's at the end of words to W's (can't type an example because it's not possible but I'll try lol), "Well" becomes "Wew" but you have to sound the "E" the same in both words. (don't make "wew" sound like "woo", make it sound like "Well" be end in your mouth making a "W" motion/sound)

Edit: actually you can hear the "w" thing right in the first line of your video when he says "is gonna kill me" listen to the word "Kill"..... he says "kiw" (man thats hard to explain in text "-D )

Edit 2 lol: Also note the word "About" has the "w" sound from the "ou" removed so "Abowt" becomes "Abaat" (turn the "ou" into "a" and drag it) and then don't pronounce the "t" at the end making it "Abaa" with an abrupt end.

The difference of the 2 is more to do with Pronunciantion than Aceent.

And people wonder why English is one of the hardest to learn :-D

Omg Ned. That's awesome. Not sure I've ever heard an accent described in such detail. Very cool.

    Thanks!

In "Lie to me" Tims accent is a very watered down version of south london, in the second clip he has lost the london accent for a middle English one where he pronounces words correctly, in the clip with Micheal he is as near to cockney as you can get without loosing the ability to understand him.

I am from the north of England but have lived all around the world and my regional accent has gone, I now speak English without a pronounced northern lilt.

When my daughter comes to visit (she lives in Manchester) you would never guess by listening to the way we speak that we were related in any way as Karen has a very strong accent.

Yeah, Tim Roth's accent is just a more or less generic middle-class London accent. Michael Cain is a lot more East-End, without being too thick, so to speak.
My accent is fairly neutral, with a few influences thrown in. Some get it close, but others are way out.

Sounds like East London but he keeps switching it from a commoner to something middle class like Phantom says, usually if its an intense scene his accent almost goes then when he become jovial he switches back to a commoner again.

    Annoying:-D

Get up vose appuls and pears you little shite you half inched aww me bandwiff
