What is wrong with my hard disk?

I have a lovely Western Digital WD2500KS 250GB HDD. Its about 95% full of movies, pictures and music. I recently picked up a TB drive and I'm trying to consolidate everything onto that drive. I was able to copy data from three other hard drives to my new drive, but when I go to copy data from the Western Digital drive, moving a 200MB video clip will take over 3 hours. It was a matter of seconds when moving the same files from my other drives.

The drive isn't fragmented, and windows didn't find any errors when I scanned it. Windows hardware manager says its healthy. I ran HD Tune and here are the benchmark results... I don't know why its crawling along. Error scan found nothing nothing wrong.

Anyone have any ideas as to why I'm getting such poor performance. I'd be devastated if I lost all my pictures and videos that are on that drive. But I just don't have 2 years available to transfer them all over.

 

I would try a different sata cable and see if that helps.

 

These Western Digital 250G drives are achieving a rep for sudden catastrophic failure.

I don't supply/use them, but seem to be replacing them quite often for customers.

Your drive is overfull and certainly heavily fragmented. the good news is that as you remove stuff, things will speed up.

 

I'm thinking that my drive is failing. Its fairly new so I'm going to contact WD and see if I can get a replacement.
