Whenever I try to save or back up data, my computer will not cooperate. I have tried using floppy disks, but they don't have enough room. I want to know what kind of CD-Rom to buy to copy data onto. I have an emachine running XP with these specifications:

    IntelĀ® CeleronĀ® 2.60 GHz Processor
    128KB L2 cache & 400 MHz FSB
    Intel 845GV Chipset
    40 GB HDD
    256 MB DDR (PC 2100)
    56K* ITU v.92 ready Fax/Modem
    48x Max. CD-RW Drive; 3.5" 1.44MB FDD
    64 MB Shared Memory

    Thank you for any help.

These days you can get DVD writers fairly cheap, which lets you put a LOT more data (single layered about 5 times more data). That entire HDD will only take about 10 DVDs to back up, as opposed to 57 CDs.

Doesn't matter too much on the brand, shop around and see if you can find one on special offer or somthing.

And hang on a minute, how are you managing to run XP on a computer with 64MB of memory.... more to the point why do you have a 2.6GHz processor with 64MB of memeory? Are you sure thats the right number?

I cut off part of the specifications description and this is the entire line that contained the 64 MB Shared Memory::
AC '97 Audio Intel Extreme Graphics 3D 64 MB Shared Memory

I will look into getting a DVD writer. In the meantime, what could I do if I just want to copy some digital photo files so that I can take them to have them developed? I have dial up which is way too slow and would take about a hundred years to transfer 24 pics.
About the CDs is there a difference between the ones you use for music and the ones you use for data?
