Could anyone please tell me what kind of internet connection I have ! confused

I know that sounds a bit backwards

I am using a Virgin Media 2mbit cable connection and modem. I have just got Ashampoo Internet Accelerator and dont want to set it up wrong!

Is this software only for dial-up???

    Hi Wayne

You have a Cable connection, and no from the little bit I just read on this it does Cable, ADSL and Dial-up

But dont expect your internet speeds to go above 2mb as it will not, it may tweak your TCP/IP and MTU values a bit but generally these apps dont perform miracles.

Us this to test your internet speeds http://www.speedtest.net/ its my favoured tester, but reality is its rare you will get the full 2mb of your connection you will connect at 2mb but with the overheads and general speed of the internet backbone as a whole you most likely may hit 1.5-1.8mb or above.

I still dunno which to choose, I assume its network because I dont use dial up, is this correct? confused My options are:-
    > Dial-up connection with modem or ISDN
    > Dial-up connection with ISDN - method 2
    > Dial-up connection with ADSL/SDSL - method 1(PPOE)
    > Dial-up connection with ADSL/SDSL - method 2
    > Dial-up connection with ADSL/SDSL - method 3(PPOE)
    > Dial-up connection with ADSL/SDSL - method 4(PPOE)
    > Network connection

I just went to the site you reccomended my results were, Upload seems pretty good, Download is really crappy int it? :-
    Upload - 1967kbps :major
    Download - 187kbps zzz
    Latency - 29ms
    Server - London
    Distance - 200miles

    Hi Wayne

Sure those should be the other way around as 1967kbps as an upload woudl mean your not on a retail interent connection but on a business package, but if your getting that speed as download then its really not worth installing an application to tweak your connection as its damm good as it is and will not improve much at all.

post the link it gives you at the end of the test, will say Forum Link ( for most forums ) COPY ~ then past it into your next post.

eg. Mine and I am having issues with my ISP at present so speed is not what it should be.

Yes on Network, but for the reasons I mention above your speeds are perfect for the package your on, not worth messing with TBH.

No I wouldnt bother installing something that will not improve that connection, your near as dammit at full 2mb and you'll never hit perfect 2mb anyway due to as I mentioned the overheads associated with the internet.
