What Makes Things Autodl?

sometimes a PDF/video/etc will offer "open in browser" vs "download" but sometimes the latter just happens. why?

for example, i try opening the following in edge:

https://www.sosmarblehead.org/uploa...r_of_the_sea__final___6-28-21___trim2_440.mp4

either via cut/paste, or (originally) via "open in new tab" from the page i found it on. either way, it just DLs a copy, bypassing the browser completely.

WHY?? is there something inherent in the link directing things to DL?

and how do i bypass that / force it to open in browser?

again, not a rare case. i notice it more with PDFs.

 

Edge is good for forcing itself to be the default PDF handler, but there are usually options in your browser you can change, for example Chrome:

What browser are you using?

 

Firefox has the option in Settings > General
