What or who is sending data to my computer?

I have a curiosity question. Sometimes when I am on the internet I see my internet connection icon in my tray become active and show that something is being downloaded to my computer. I suspect that that it is one of my security programs doing an update, BUT I am not sure.

Is there a program already in Win 2000K (such as nslookup.exe) that will tell me what IP is downloading to my computer? Or is there a free program I can download to accomplish this?

I'm running Avast, Comodo Firewall and Comodo BoClean.

When this happens, I run Process Explorer to see if I can figure out what is active. Many times it won't show me anything. I also try the Windows Task Manager and it doesn't give me a clue. I have not found any problems with my machine. I just would like to know what or who is sending data to my machine, so if I don't like it I can pull the plug on my IE.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Ironically, I too am running Win2000Pro with Avast, Comodo Firewall and BoClean!! Mine does the same thing. BoClean and Avast update their programs at least once a day and I figured that was the reason for the activity. BoClean doesn't let you know it's updating and with Avast it's usually a vocal message, if that option is turned on. If not, then that too will update silently. However, the Comodo Firewall no longer updates itself on Win2000, just XP and Vista. You mentioned using IE, have you ever considered going to Firefox? Just curious. Hope that helps!;)

Thanks Stubby. I've experienced the same things. I just would like to know for sure what's coming in. I'm sure there is some sort of tool out there that I can run when this happens so I can check it out. The programs you and I have, I can tell they are running or updating by using Process Explorer or Windows Task Manager.

    Any suggestions anyone??

Yes I've considered Firefox, but at my age I really don't want to have to learn new tricks. This old dog likes to keep things simple. I have a dial-up IP and I hate long downloads, but can do if absolutely necessary.

Can't teach an old dog new tricks, huh?:-D I know that feeling, believe me....I'm no 'spring chicken' either!! Actually, the learning curve for Firefox is low and if you can use IE, you should have NO problem with Firefox. The only reason I even mentioned Firefox is because it IS a more secure browser than IE. The download is around 7 megs.

As for a program, or tool, that will help you with the other part, I'm sure there are some out there, but since I've never used such, I'm afraid I can't be of much help there. Sorry:cry
