Back again with another RAM ?...rolleyes

I read somewhere that it is a good idea to "match up" your RAM speed with your processor speed... Is this true? If so, what is the math behind it, how does one "match up" a 3Ghz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 64-bit dual core processor with x RAM?

Or maybe an easier ? is, which would be better for my computer, 667Mhz RAM, or 800Mhz?

Maybe someone could direct me to a good source for learning the in's and out's of the relationship between RAM/Processor...

    Thanks for your Help!

It's not just the processor, it's also what motherboard you have.

As for the CPU, your front speed bus determine how fast your memory can run. You can go here and run the scanner, and it will give you an idea of what you can use.

yeah, your motherboard will determin the ram you use, chances are since your using tht processor, you have a am2 or a am2+ socket motherboard, which in effect will most likly mean you need ddr2 800 ram.... but if you knew your motherboard make and name, tht would be the information that would give you your answer.

If I was running a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE with that AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 64-bit dual core processor, then would my computer like the 800Mhz better than the 667Mhz?

    Thanks for the input all!

They asked what motherboard you are using, and all you have supplied is your CPU and Video Card. As they said, your motherboard is the key.

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE is a motherboard... I am no computer genius, but when I search for NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE, is says motherboard over and over.... This is a mother board, right anyone????

That's what I'm guessing to be the graphical chipset of your onboard video. What they're asking for is the make and model of your motherboard. But to answer your question, judging from the CPU and GPU specs given you more than likely need ddr2-800mhz. This is not a strict guarantee though, because we still don't know what motherboard you have.

Yeah it's the on board video chip set for whatever motherboard he's using.

I think at this point the more pertinent question is what are you going to be using your computer for.

That video chip set isn't really any good for gaming or any type of serious graphics rendering, so unless you are also looking at getting a good video card for your comp as well, in all likelihood matching up your speeds isn't going to do a whole lot, as it's meant to optimize your system, and if you don't have a better video card or need for one, then there isn't much point in trying to optimize it.
