What router do YOU use?

After my old SpeedStream basically died two days ago, I rushed out to OfficeDepot and let myself be talked into buying the LinkSys WRT54GS with a WUSB54GS adapter.. 4 hours of solo troubleshooting, 2 hours on the phone with a LinkSys representative in India, and countless blue screens of doom later, the internet is working on all of the hardwired machines and my wireless laptop.. however, my main computer (the one with the adapter) has not been so lucky. In fact, I just got a blue screen as I was typing this on my laptop. I am basically at my wit's end. I have configured and reconfigured more configurations than I knew could exist.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software.. I have rebooted at least every 10 minutes.. and I have succeeded in getting onto the internet a handful of times, only to get dumped off after a few seconds. It seems like the best option is going to be returning this and starting over. However, reading through router specs and reviews there does not seem to be any one clear choice. I am not looking for anything particularly heavy-duty.. it will only need to support 5 computers.. it just needs to work at a reasonable speed.

So, what router do you use? And how is it working out for you?

I use this. Setup could not have possibly been easier. I have 3 pcs on it and it's never given me a problem.

I as that same router (wgr614) 2 wired machines and 2 wirelss laptops. Good setup.
I have just downloaded and installed Network Magic after reading about it in a PC mag. The mag (PCuser) gave it their yearly software award. All I can say is - AWESOME!!!!
Networking for me has been a struggle, this application would have saved hours of stress. It is so easy and intuitive, folder sharing, printer sharing, wirelss setups the whole shebang. It comes free for 30 days but I will definately be buying this one. (I have no affiliation with the company, just a happy customer, well not a customer yet as I haven't paid, but I will)

    I use.

Netgear wgr614, smc7004, Buffalo wbr54g, Linksys wrt54g, Belkin, and few more.

All of them are working very well.

If you are confident in your knowledge of the subject, then rush to OD and ask for other devices, might be that the specific unit that you got is Bad.

I have a Linksys WRT54G V1.1, When I first got it, It would corrupt large files (anything that I tried to download over 200MB), I upgraded the firmware from the Linksys site and its worked fine since. Very reliable, would definately recommend to anyone.

May I suggest that if your laptop works fine, it may be something wrong with the WUSB54GS adapter, not the router.

See if there's any more up to date software for it.

    May be worth a go.

On another note, Cat5E - I'm really curious to know why you need all those, is there any chance you could give a quick desctiption of your network layout so I can see how they're all hooked up?

  7. linksys doesnt work very far, it was also hell to setup.
NETGEAR is the greatest router out there!
its even faster than a network cable!
(also easy to setup if you read the instructions!)

I use a Linksys BEFSR41. We got 7 of them for $20 CDN each. I've configured them to use strictly as switches. Our main router is a Cisco Pix with firewall and VPN. Its hella sweet, but its business-class, so probably a little pricy for the average home user.
