Hey I got a K7N2 Delta Mobo and im looking to upgrade from my Pos processor since i want to be able to play newer games (its a 1ghz atm) Anyway....I'm not looking to spend that much (probably about $125 or lower) My mobo is socket A. Uhm..I'd like something pretty good of course :-D Thanks for reading this

Also, what does OEM stand for and whats the difference between OEM and Retail?

    -Thanks

OEM is original equipment mfg. Alot cheaper then "retail" but it wont include a fancy manual or anything like that. Ussally includes the minimum to run[if its a video card it will have a cd with drivers and thats it for xample]; if its a processor it needs also a HEAT SINK + FAN combo for it thats rated to handle the processor.

yes you should, however it is likely rated a lot lower than a new processor would require, so you would need to buy a new HSF, usually between $25 and $50 depending on the quality.

as far as a new CPU goes, you can get an Athlon XP 2800+ for under $100 which is a great CPU, or you can upgrade all the way to a 3000+ or 3200+ Barton ($130 and $150).

the prices fluxuate quite a bit, as I got a 2800+ OEM for $80 about 6 months ago.

Barton is the best performing core they made for the Athlon XP chips. Your board will support it, and thats the best choice for you.

their is only 1 2800+ version, and it is Barton, however there are a few versions of the 3000+, so if you go for that one, make sure you get a 3000+ Barton.

a Retail processor comes with a 3-year warranty as well as a qualified HSF. However if a retail package costs a lot more, you may consider buying OEM and getting a nice HSF. The Vantec Aeroflow is a pretty nice cheap HSF that works well. http://www.aerocooler.com/shop.cart?action=ITEM&prod_id=FANVAF7040
